First Stage of the Big Adventure

We left Heathrow at 7.15pm on Mon 14 Jan (1 hour late but made up time) and arrived Singapore at 3.00pm Tues in POURING RAIN!! The new terminal 3 is rather special but 6 hours wandering round is still too much - especially since once we went through to departure, the flght was delayed by almost 2 hours! (If any of you are coming out this way, note that the same restrictions as to liquids/creams etc apply during transit so anything bought at Heathrow after security could be taken to Singapore but would be confiscated before the onward flight. The only way to get round this is to buy all your Duty Frees in Transit AFTER passing through security on the final leg of the trip and we found Duty Free prices in Singapore are much higher than at Heathrow)

Again we made up time and arrived in Auckland only an hour late at 1.00pm Wed local time, absolutely shattered having had virtually no sleep - my seat wouldn't recline and the flight was full so there were no spare seats.

We followed Jenness's directions and caught the bus to the ferry terminal (we had a fantastic Maori driver who even helped the passengers with their luggage and called out all the stops along the way - UK drivers take note). On the ferry ticket seller's recommendation, we had a Valentino's ice cream and milk shake while waiting for departure.

It's only a 35min trip to Waiheke and Jenness and Al were waiting for us and we arrived here just after 5.00pm.

It's now 10.22pm and we're still awake though only just!! and having had a lovely meal and a few drinks on the cantilevered deck overlooking the valley, watching the sunset, we're off to bed.
Night, night all. Pictures will follow.
