Happy Birthday Debbi! And belated Happy April Fools’ Day!
We’ve had another day exploring Melbourne and what a beautiful day it has been – sunny and warm, but not too hot for wandering around. We started off getting a tram to the Victoria Market. It’s not just big, it’s gigantic. The main inside hall is all fresh meat and fish, stall after stall after stall – the most amazing selection of fish, even greater than the indoor market in Valencia, which we thought was big. Then there is a delicatessen section, with a vast range of cheeses and cooked meats, and some of the biggest olives ever!
Eventually we reached the everything else market section, which also went on for ever! It was the usual collection of good bargains and tat – plenty of hats to keep Tom happy, lots of funny logos to keep us both amused, but no fabric or haberdashery for me. Aaah! Big sigh!
Having exhausted ourselves before the day was hardly started, we tried to get coffee and stickies near the market, but no-one had any very appetising looking ones, so we caught another tram and went back to the café we went to yesterday. As I was still searching for x-stitch, patchwork and scrapbook supplies, we decided to split up and have an afternoon doing our own thing. To cut a long story short, I was totally unsuccessful in finding just about anything I wanted, but it was a lovely day so I did the tourist thing and went all over the place – using the trams and good old feet too. Tom had a good old wander too – NOT using the trams he bragged – and found us an even better cake supply in a Chinese run café, as well as lots of other things too.
Having definitely done our 10,000 paces for the day, we bought some drink supplies and got on the tram back to the motel. We were going to eat out, but on the way, we saw a kebab wagon just around the corner from here – obviously popular with the locals, so we tried it out – and the kebabs are gorgeous – cheaper that eating out too.
So that’s our day today – short but sweet so goodnight for now!
